HIERARCHIES

I was taught the Taxonomy of Cognitive Function with evaluation at the top. At that time I thought "Uh, no." Creativity, synthesis, actually making stuff was No. 2. I thought, "Okay, evaluators wrote this." This was rewritten in about 2001 or 2002 as computers rewrote the world. There are lots of people and books who have not yet made the change. Recently I learned of a Maslow Hierarchy of Human Needs that did not have "love" on the scale. Recently it was added at the 3rd spot. I don't know if Maslow had so much love in his life that they did not imagine life without it or if Maslow had a life without ever having experienced love and therefore did not miss it? I understand this is taught in schools. What will it take for the educators to notice this extraordinary fallacy.

GETTING AND SPENDING WITH BUTTERFLIES

This new composition is hatching. As I move through it, trying to figure out the joy and the mystery, Wordsworth's poem emerges. "The world is too much with us, late and soon,..."It feels like pulling a feeling out then once it's out, recognizing it. Oh yes, I know this feeling well but with these butterflies and color, it feels even bigger and deeper.

ART OF MIGRATION AND NATURE GONE TO NEW HOMES!

These are from the ribbon of life idea. The PHONE FOG painting is about being disconnected by being buried in a digital world. Sort of. Then MIGRANTS who are essential to this country and the world. Another painting, ANGEL AND THE MONARCH, of many layers of glazes to build an ethereal experience of the gifts of life.

EXHIBIT OF CONNECTIONS AND MIGRANTS

Several of the artworks have sold. The gallery has had a lot of traffic. I have returned home. The exhibit continues for another week. Susan will be in the gallery today and next Saturday November 25, there will be a Closing reception. Enjoy the show!

RIBBON OF LIFE - THE SHOW!

Across the Verrazano Bridge to Manhattan island, delivering art to Ceres Gallery. Installation and fix the lights. Post the labels and sweep the floor. Fun is on its way!

MIGRANTS AND WALLS

Walls are barriers that keep you safe or can imprison you. Walls stop but they also leak. Walls attract attention, too. They say "Look, Look! Here is something worth protecting." Walls fall, too. They always do. This painting captures some irony and beauty and has some little jokes. One butterfly is not like the others. Fun and mystery, both.

NYRB! and RIBBON OF LIFE - IMMIGRANTS ALL

I got my copy of the 60th anniversary issue of the NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS! The ad for my Ceres exhibit is on page 77 and it looks Grand! Susan Grabel is in the other gallery at Ceres at the same time as I am in gallery number 2. The ad for her exhibit is on page 75. It is so wonderful to see the word getting out!!!

TIME with FRIENDS AND A VASE OF FLOWERS

I painted this in 2010 but it just looked so .....so lonely? Dried Flowers can be beautiful but adding the butterflies, bees and a striped beetle gave the composition a sense of story. From timeless to moving through time. Love It!

THE RIBBON OF LIFE with Music

These two paintings capture something of the music of the natural world. Maybe silly but entertaining too..................

THE RIBBON OF LIFE - Immigrants All

Exhibiting my artwork is a dialogue with the world, the culture I live in. The artwork is already shipped, reservations are made and the excitement grows. These objects of thought, these mystreries soon will be all together, on a wall!I study to learn, practice, explore art supplies and images. Then I apply with courage. There is an underlying ribbon of life that binds us together. All of life. All of us. In any of the arts - in words or dance or song or imagery. Inside and out the artist becomes both observer and participant. Bugs – butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies soar in the grand supernal of our world and our imaginations. The tremendous losses of these essential elements of the ribbon of life could be an irreparable doom for all of us.

HONOR THE WILDFLOWERS

I really wantede to honor and notice the wildflowers. The part they play in The Ribbon of Life. Starting with a bumblebee and some goldenrod this painting emerged with a butterfly and rabbit plus a bit of our world.

RE-PAINT THE DOORWAY TO AN IMAGINATION WITH BUTTERFLIES

I started a different design and plan. Added butterflies. Insects are in danger and we (people) really, really need them.

FENCE DOORWAY TO IMAGINATION

I painted the fence to give me a nice sense of space right after I moved in here. There were some rotting boards. I got the boards replaced.

SWITCHED FOR THE SHOW

We traded out the LADYBUG'S FESTIVAL for this renovated FUNNY FISH. I often change or paint-out or improve in some way. Try new Things! So the party came home and the fishes with large wings is at the show!

HANDPAINTED "POSTCARDS"

The cardboard was too small for this and too big for that so I cut it in half and made a couple of postcards.

MORNING GLORY VINE

My overgrown morning glory vine is giving shade to my front window. WHAT A GIFT! The vines twisting all around reminds of the ribbon of life that follows everything.
