PLEINE AIR

Trying my hand at pleine aire painting in my backyard. The sunflowers are acrobatic in their gyrations, drying in the August heat. The birds still come to steal seeds from the pods. This is a small acrylic on paper, about 10" x 12".

NEW BLICK ART SUPPLY CATALOG

In the new art supply catalog from Dick Blick, the poisonous pigments are indicated. Poisonous to the environment as well as to artists. Some of my Favorite colors. I bought pints and as I run out I will not replace them with the same pigments. Color is relative, anyway, but, Oh-h-h, I do love that cadmium yellow! I noticed that my favorite brand, Utrecht, doesn't have as many red indicators of danger (THANK YOU, CALIFORNIA). Everything changes.

SOLD AT CERES, NYC.

Another offspring....or spring-off....sold, gone away. A small one. I will get name of purchaser later and paid when the check clears. I love galleries. They do the book work!

SISTERS (SUNFLOWERS) 8" X 10"
A sister painting in the exhibit, no doubt, helped with the sale! Ceres was great to allow a second, small work to accompany the main event!

HILMA OF KLIMT, REWRITE ART HISTORY!!

As a child, I thought that there were only men artists in the Time-Life books about artists because it was harder for men to make art, like elephants making art is special. Later I learned in school that there were no great women artists. That confused me. Since I knew it wasn't true, I would figure out later what that was all about. Then in the 1970's the rewrite of art his-story began. Recently, a student brought this new piece in the rewrite to my attention. Hilma of Klimt (1862 - 1944), before Wassily K. and his buddies!!! Swedish. Hilma credits mystical, spiritual sources just as the guys do.

NO EXHIBIT!

The supposed to be BEE painting exhibit at the Kirk branch of the Austin Public Library is Not going to happen. The gentleman in charge of art-exhibits-in-libraries said, told me, the library had systems for hanging paintings but it was not so. I visited the location. Only shelves for leaning paintings against the wall! How novel! I withdrew my application and canceled the program to be conducted by Kim Lehman, The Bee Lady. What did I learn? Bureaucracies are peculiar. I learned that. Again. Oops!
CLOISENNE BEE, 20" x 16", acrylic with gold leaf

I like this funny little decorative bee pinned to a tree.
